Despite my repeated invitation, Leon politely declined to stay for dinner in order to catch his bus home. While I was pretty sure that watching him talk to my parents would have driven my anxiety to unknown heights, I had been hoping they'd get a chance to meet him. If he made a good impression on my mother, she might be a bit more lenient in the future about letting me spend time at his place. Somebody as polite, friendly and warm as Leon was bound to be a hit with parents. This way, our dinner was just the usual silent and somewhat awkward affair, but at least we didn't end up getting into a fight or a discussion about my future.

After dinner I retreated to my room and decided to text Leon. We had never been texting much, mostly because I barely ever looked at my phone, and Leon had realized quickly that if he wanted to ask me something outside of school, he was more likely to get an answer by just calling me.

Daniel: As much as I hate doing that to you, you have to stay for dinner next time.
