Chapter 15

Ben had received his feathered visitor from his personal Rangers two days ago, and had immediately called his private council together. Still unsure of who he could trust after the attempt on his daughter, Ben had reduced the number of attendees to his core advisors.

Once he shared the message, while not disclosing the source, his military commanders wanted to call up the troops in preparation for the impending attack. The Guild Master of the Rangers however, preached caution to the King. He speculated that this was nothing more than the posturing of the young prince, and sending troops into the field would only escalate matters. He assured Ben that his Rangers were reporting no visible troop buildups in Windfall.

Ben knew all too well that it took time to muster and deploy his army, both cavalry and infantry. Most would need to come in from the countryside for outfitting before they could be fielded in defense of the city. In the end, he agreed to a few more days delay while he waited for additional information. Only he knew about Captain Leander and Alex’s mission, and he intended to keep it that way.
