Gantt Chart

A Gantt Chart is a table of project task information as a Bar Chart type that graphically represents all the scheduled tasks and progress in relation to time. It is similar in nature to a timeline that denotes actions over time. Gantt Charts should be updated regularly.

Note: Microsoft Project and Visio have effective Gantt Chart programs.

Approach creating a Gantt Chart as follows:

1. List all the main steps that need to be completed for a Kaizen Event.

2. Organize listed tasks in sequential order.

3. Assign a person or a group of people to be responsible for each step.

4. Decide how long each step will take, when it can be started in relation to the other steps, and when it should be completed.

5. Develop a horizontal bar chart to portray the above steps, including sequencing and overlapping of the steps as needed.

6. Document assumptions and develop contingency plans to implement if any of the assumptions proved wrong.

The Gantt Chart should be posted in the department or published to ensure project communication with everyone involved.
