Chapter Nine

Gunnar stood in the small hallway to the bedroom, shocked by what he saw and heard. He watched as the omega pressed a kiss to the king’s lips. He watched as the kiss exploded, the two of them barely able to contain the need they felt.

Then the omega offered Eirik a way out… for Gunnar’s sake?

Anger churned through his veins.

Not from jealousy.

From the desire he felt at seeing them in one another’s arms.

Watching the two of them together was exciting. His cock was hard as a rock, and he felt the urge to push them into the bedroom where he could watch Eirik drive into Leif. Trembling from the lust pumping through his veins, he clenched his teeth in order to control the need he felt. The door closed and Eirik spun to return to the main cabin. He stopped when he saw Gunnar there. Eirik met his stare, his expression blank.

“I’m fighting it with everything I have,” Eirik said.

“Why fight it? He’s your blood mate. Take him,” Gunnar said, the thought making the jealousy roar within him. It also sounded so tempting. He wanted to watch them together and the vision of that in his head made him angry. What kind of freak was he?

“I don’t even know what he is,” Eirik said, scrubbing a hand over his face. “Not now.”

“Yet it doesn’t stop the need you feel to claim him,” Gunnar said. “Regardless of how he was made, he’s still flesh and blood, one way or the other. Made or born, he is your blood mate.”

“We don’t know that’s what he is, not yet,” Eirik said. “And blood mate or not, you have my heart. I don’t know how many more times I can tell you that. You know how I feel about you.”

Gunnar looked away. “I know.”

Eirik stepped forward and drew Gunnar into his arms. He pressed a kiss to Gunnar’s forehead. “I got so angry seeing you in Tanner’s arms. I wanted to scream and howl and tear him to bits, and then I realized that’s exactly what you’re going through right now. I’m asking more of you than I should. You deserve better.”

Tanner’s words exactly. Gunnar was so confused, but he knew one thing for certain. He loved Eirik and he couldn’t let go. “I shouldn’t expect anything. I knew going into this you’d never be mine. I should’ve been happy with the years I got.”

Eirik stepped back. “Don’t say that. You warrant so much more. And I plan to give it all to you.”

Gunnar wouldn’t take false hope. “You can’t.”

“I will,” Eirik snapped. “The senate will do as I say or be damned. I’ll make it right. At the next senate meeting.” Eirik cupped Gunnar’s cheek and looked into his eyes. “I’m taking you as my mate.
