NONALCOHOLIC VARIATION

Omit the vodka and make the drink entirely with chilled flat or sparkling water.

SPARKLING PEACH SANGRIA

SERVES 4 TO 6

Here’s another smash hit for the crowd from Maureen Petrosky, our cocktail columnist with a knack for the pitcher drink. Pitcher drinks are easy on the host and the guests—no last-minute mixing, and no waiting at the bar for a pour. This sangria is most suited to high summer, when peaches are at their sweetest. It’s best when made a few hours ahead of time so that the juices can mingle, but it is perfectly terrific made at the last minute (we speak from experience).

1 pound yellow peaches (about 2 large), pitted, sliced, plus more for garnish

1 cup peach or apricot brandy

1 750-milliliter bottle Moscato wine, chilled

1 liter sparkling water or club soda, chilled
