Where am I…?

It all felt so hazy.

Neave felt as if he were submerged in a viscous liquid, and he couldn’t see anything around him.

Now, now, now…

A strange voice echoed around him.

What the hell are you doing?

FOUR SECTS

The feeling in his body felt more like a vague memory than a real sensation, and the space around him floated in and out of existence, flickering with even darker patches of abyssal void.

"Where am I…?" Neave asked himself, "Am I dead?" Without anyone answering the question, he almost immediately dismissed it, "That’s too cheesy a question to ask for a situation like this. Then… The loop realm?"

"Now, now, now…" A strange voice echoed through the darkness, "What the hell are you doing?"

Neave wanted to ask who it was, but his words wouldn’t leave his mouth. Not because he couldn’t speak, but because he didn’t want to say something as corny as ‘Who is this!?’

So he stayed silent instead, waiting for the mysterious voice to continue.

"Let’s make a sect, Daddy!" It said in a mocking voice similar to Neave’s, "How about we become buddy-buddy, oh sapling destroyer!? Hey, young lady, face me off in a dance battle!" Heavy breathing and horrid whispers reached closer and closer to Neave as it finally said, "Let’s go put my life in danger to play hero!"

The voice grew distant again, "Nonsensical. Absurd. Hideous. Irrational."

"Bah–!" Neave scoffed, "Like I give a shit about being rational. I have spent an eternity in a hellish realm of death and suffering. I can afford to act a little irrationally, don’t you think? Besides, I’m just doing what I want, that is all."

"You’re wrong. You aren’t doing what you want to do," The voice got closer again, "You are avoiding doing what you don’t want to do."

"And what is that?" Neave asked semi-sarcastically, already expecting what he believed to be the most likely answer from whatever this entity was.

"Wiping the slate clean and getting a fresh start. For everything."

"There it goes!" Neave declared sarcastically, "Telling me to go genocide the entire realm and likely beyond, woohoo, yeah! Who could have expected that from a disembodied floating voice in a dark void of echoing whispers?"

"Hahaha… Hahahahahahahaha! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!" It cackled with unhinged, unrestrained laughter, which stopped abruptly, "Isn’t it obvious that’s what you should do?"

"Obviously not!" Neave declared, "Besides, who the fuck am I to decide it’s all worth destroying?" He sighed, "I’m not the most morally righteous individual out there."

"Obviously not."

The dismissive tone declaring his statement obvious caught Neave by surprise.

"But you knew that from the very start. You’ve always known that." The voice got closer again, this time appearing directly behind his head, whispering into his ears, "You rejected power because you knew that if you were given it, you’d have misused it more than anyone else."

"N–No… Shut up."

"Had you the strength, you would have gotten your revenge. Hahaha, no, isn’t that exactly what you did when you acquired it?"

"I said shut the fuck up!"

"This is why we scraped off the liar, Neave. His efforts were commendable, but that didn’t make him any less of a hypocrite.
