In other words, I needed one phrase that unified everything in a simple message. Not a slogan, not a tagline, but something that defined who I was, almost on a spiritual level. That’s when it came to me: “Why don’t I call myself the Rapid Growth® Guy?”

So how did I drop my Unified Message naturally into a conversation?

When I introduce myself, I’m almost always the first to ask what they do. As an introvert, one of my natural gifts is intently listening and engaging with what a person has to say. I empathize with their response, showing genuine interest and care, and then ask further questions that invite them to go deeper. As I’m speaking to them, something invariably comes up that allows me to offer insight, a suggestion, advice, guidance, or just plain excitement.

Without even realizing it, they are deep into speaking about themselves, which is a pleasant change of pace from all the awkward responses and stilted discussions that networking normally involves.

By providing as much value as I can, and showing a genuine interest in them, the human instinct of reciprocity (read Influence by psychologist Robert Cialdini) drives them to afford me the same courtesy. Eventually, our discussion about them comes to an end, or they realize how one-sided our conversation has been, and they say, “Oh my gosh, I never even asked: What is it you do?”

I always reply, “I’m the Rapid Growth Guy.” I don’t rush on ahead into my passion and mission. I don’t launch right into a story. In fact, I don’t offer any explanation at all. Instead, I state it just as if I were saying, “I’m a sales trainer.” I act as if they should know what it means.

Instantly, they transform from having their guard up, preparing for a pitch, and being afraid of me selling them something, to being open, curious, and interested. They can’t help asking, “What exactly is that?”

As an introvert, nothing could be better. My whole body chemistry changes when I’m invited to share what I do with somebody, instead of feeling like I have to pitch them. My muscles relax. My breathing slows. And since I’m the only Rapid Growth Guy they’ve ever met, I don’t get stuck in any conversations where the prospect has preconceived thoughts about me or the fees that I can charge.

A Unified Message is the clean slate you need to attract your ideal prospects or employers. Think of it as a slingshot right into a discussion of who you are and the value you can provide.

It’s your ticket to leaving your competition in the dust and finally getting paid what you’re worth.
