Zinc

Zinc is an important element in antioxidant defenses, and it is important that you have enough. However, in some digestive disorders, like Crohn’s disease, zinc absorption is impaired and it is lost from your gut at a very high rate. Low blood levels of zinc are common in patients with Crohn’s disease. In one study, supplementation with zinc significantly decreased small intestinal permeability in patients with Crohn’s disease for a period of 12 months,102 and correction of zinc deficiency provided improvement in folks with IBD.103

Zinc L-carnosine—a form of zinc that is bound to the amino acid L-carnosine— has a number of properties that guard the lining of your digestive tract. Clinically, zinc L-carnosine has been found to protect the gut’s mucosal lining.104, 105

DOSE: 30 milligrams of zinc L-carnosine daily.
