Chapter 7

The Jacuzzi

Patrick and Josie had been wanting a romantic, weekend break away from everything and everybody in their lives since they had first met online.

Patrick was a middle-aged, self-employed tradesman, running a highly successful building design consultancy and project management business. He had managed to gather around him a good team of highly skilled and experienced professional tradesmen and women that could offer highly skilled services across the whole spectrum of building design and construction work. He offered his clients a ‘one stop shop’ for anyone who wanted to do building and renovation work without the hassle. He charged a premium for these services but had a growing client base of satisfied customers who were happily prepared to pay him well to manage all their property development projects. Patrick was known to be an excellent problem solver and had a reputation for straight talking, reliability and honesty.

Three years earlier, Patrick’s wife, Nancy, had tragically passed away in a car crash. It was the one time in his life he was glad that they were childless. Although he kept himself busy during the day, his solitary nights were often lonely and depressing. He greatly missed the touch and intimacy of a woman in his life. Patrick’s devotion to his business, and the associated long, often stressful working hours, meant he had little or no social life outside of work.

Since his wife’s death, he had never been able to fully embrace the dating scene. He knew he should be moving on with his life but had no interest in playing the often futile game of attending clubs and pubs in search of the elusive female that might be the new love of his life. He quickly worked out that the club scene was much more suited to a younger generation. He had enjoyed a couple of one-night stands, but he knew he needed something and someone more substantial.

Out of curiosity, and at the prompting of one of his friends, Patrick had eventually tried online dating. This had opened a whole new and fascinating world of weird and wonderful women, ranging from the genuinely lovely to those intent on playing hurtful mind games, not to mention all the fake profiles and scammers. Despite encountering some very strange and peculiar women, he had finally met Josie, and they had clicked immediately.

Josie was a couple of years younger than Patrick. She was an attractive single mum with three teenaged kids, having married young. She had a very caring, nurturing nature; the kind of person that picks up stray animals in the street. In her case, that was a couple of foster children, also in their teens, who seemed to randomly drift in and out of her home and complicate her life enormously.

During the day, Josie worked casually in several customer service jobs, but it was her evening, home-based business that had piqued Patrick’s interest. To supplement her income, Josie had once revealed to him that she did online and party scheme sales of sex toys.
