TIMOTHY WOKE UP with Alvin Darling’s upbeat song “All Night” on his mind, reminding him of the biblical precedent for our faith in God coming through for us after nights of intercession. Having sought the Lord’s will through prayer and meditation on God’s Word into the late night hours last night, Timothy had gone to bed and awakened in the new mercies of a new morning with a song in his heart and on his mind. Tomorrow the missionary trip would begin, and thus over the next seven days he looked forward to fellowshipping with other believers, ministering the love of Christ to the people of Kenya, and continuing to prayerfully seek the Lord’s will regarding the invitation that Conrad had extended on behalf of Genesis Revival Church. “Let me know if this is what you want me to do, Lord,” he’d prayed. He was confident that the Lord would reply in a convincing manner, and in His perfect time.

Whatever the Lord’s will was, Timothy simply wanted to be obedient. Repeatedly he had to reject the reasoning of his flesh that suggested he was already juggling too much as it was. He’d resolved that if it felt like he was doing too much, then that just meant that he wasn’t allowing the Lord to do it all through him. “You’re able, Lord, to do exceeding abundantly above all I can ask or think according to your power that works in me,” he’d told Jesus. “Have your way, Lord.”

His prayers last night had also included intercession for Rosita, whose request not to be disturbed yesterday he’d honored. When he had passed her bedroom door last night, he’d distinctly heard laughter coming from inside while Rosita talked to someone, presumably, on the telephone. “That sounds like the old Rosita,” he’d said when he passed the room. “God is good,” he’d added with a smile. Prior to hearing that laughter Timothy had considered not going on the missionary trip so he could keep a close eye on Rosita; he’d actually prayed about this for the past few days and had been awaiting the Lord’s response. Upon overhearing Rosita’s seeming merriment, he sensed the Lord giving him assurance that he should keep his plans and go on the missionary trip.

Presently, it was 7:55 a.m., and the doorbell rang, announcing the arrival of the butler who’d been dispatched from the domestic services placement agency.

When Timothy opened the front door a dark-skinned imposing figure of a man with broad shoulders and chiseled facial features stood there in a black suit resembling a royal dignitary or a stately ambassador rather than a servant.

“Good morning, sir,” the man nodded. “My name is Michael Nevaeh, reporting for duty, sir.”

“Good morning, Mr. Nevaeh,” Timothy said as they shook hands. “I’m Timothy Johnson. Please, come in.”

“Thank you, sir,” Mr. Nevaeh replied graciously as he entered the home. “And please, call me Michael.”

“Only if you call me Timothy.”

“Agreed, sir,” Michael replied. “Timothy.”

They joined Ms. Tee in the kitchen where, over coffee, the
