“Paranoid is, as paranoid does,” Alexander retorted as he opened the door and stepped out. “Besides, taking the metro gives me a chance to get the accent right.”

He let his vague London accent slip into the Newcastle one, and Lance mock winced.

“Meet you back here in five hours or so?” he asked.

“Got it,” Alexander replied. “I'll ring if anything changes.”

Lance drove away with a farewell wave, leaving Alexander alone outside of the station building.

In his jeans and leather jacket, he looked like anyone else making their way into the city. He kept his mouth shut and his eyes open, smiling blandly if someone made eye contact with him, but not making conversation.
