Chapter Fifteen
Harriet
Weâre acting like teenagers, Judy and me, and it is so much fun. As we rush to the nest sheâs sharing with Mabel and Sunny, people are milling about everywhere: groups of women around fireplaces, couples chatting in secluded areas, laughter and live music coming from the Feederâs patio. Everything about the night is perfect. Even dinner with Olive and Sunny turned out okay. I tend to let things go instead of allowing them to fester. Life is too short to hold on to animosity.
We push inside the front door of the three-bedroom nest and quickly climb the stairs two at a time. Iâm holding Judyâs hand as she fumbles with her bedroom door. When she finally throws it open, the door bangs into the wall, and once weâre inside, the return motion causes it to latch behind us. The lamp is on, and I can smell her perfume the second we enter. She smells like spring, like honeysuckle and jasmine, and I have found it intoxicating since the second I got a whiff. Itâs taking everything in me not to spin around, strip her down, and take her right now with her back pressed against the door, her leg hiked up over my shoulder.
She breezes past me and flips her sandals off. I follow her lead, toeing off my Air Jordans. She very slowly pulls on the elastic band holding her hair back until itâs free. The way the blond falls around her face, her bangs, everything, I need to kiss her. My stomach aches just thinking about it. She moves her hands to her button-down, her fingers working to unsnap each closure. My mouth has gone dry. I blink a couple times to make sure Iâm not imagining this. Am I dreaming?
When the shirt comes open, I realize that, no, I am, in fact, not dreaming. She slides it over her shoulders, down her arms, and drops it to the floor. Her black lace bra is not at all what I pictured, but I am so okay with it. Her stomach is flat, but there are light stretch marks. I want to touch her. I want to do so much to her. She starts to walk toward me, breasts bouncing lightly with each step. She holds her hand out, and I put mine on hers, palm to palm. She pulls carefully on me before her free hand starts messing with the hem of my shirt. I take the hint and pull it over my head. I never wear a bra, and theyâre not big, but the look on her face makes me feel like Iâm the best sheâs ever seen.
She licks her lips. âYouâre so fucking hot.â
âYeah?â
She turns her back to me. âWill you undo mine?â
I run my fingertips across her shoulders, down her shoulder blades to the clasps on the black lace. I bend my head and kiss her shoulder as the bra goes limp. She slides it off, and I see goose bumps erupt all over her shoulders and biceps.
