Cattarina met him in costume, and Jack was happy to hand back the goggles.

“Really!? You got them fixed?” She practically squealed in excitement.

“Yeah, the girl you bumped into while I was on a date, she fixed them up,” he told her.

“Ooo, smart and sexy,” she purred.

“Yes, she is,” Jack agreed. “So what do these even do?”

“So, they were programmed to find the generator,” she said, pulling them on. “But there were a lot of other settings. They should provide some decent night vision for me, and highlight any threats I might not have noticed, especially powered people. When I wore them before, I could see the Knuckleheads from a block away, even when the snow meant I couldn’t normally.”

“Those are pretty impressive.” Jack was glad to have them back. Maybe they’d even help with the teleporter.

“Yeah, I didn’t have them long, but I miss them like crazy.” She pulled them on. The goggles looked like an almost steampunk version of jewelers goggles, a dark bronze with lenses that could shift and move, reacting seamlessly with the catgirl’s own eyes. “And a catgirl that can’t see in the dark is a little embarrassing,” she giggled.

“I wasn’t going to say anything,” Jack teased.

“Good,” she said, then kissed him on the cheek. “Thanks for this!”

“Happy to help.”

They climbed quickly to the nearest roof, and made their way across the neighborhood. They didn’t have far to go, but the Boxer appreciated traveling with the catgirl. Unlike Marina, she moved across the roofs even easier than he did. And he loved to watch her small, lithe body move.

Three blocks from the shipping headquarters, Cattarina made them lay down flat.

“Let me test these bad boys out.”

She pressed a button on the side, and the lenses refocused.

“Not bad,” she whispered. “Okay, we got a lady with a gun on the roof. She might also have some night vision goggles of her own. Then there’s five powered people on the fourth floor.”

“Five?” Jack asked. “Is the woman on the roof powered?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s Babette, then. She’s the sharpshooter. But there should only be five total, not six.” That made the Boxer nervous.

“Hmmm,” Cattarina mumbled.

She shifted a lens so it telescoped out more.

“Alright, so three people are in one room, sitting around a table or something. Hard to tell, I can only see the powered people’s outlines and not furniture or anything, so I’m just guessing. One is real big, probably Dale, and then a smaller man and woman.”

“The teleporter, and either Felix or Ryker.”

“Probably,” she agreed. Then she continued her investigation. “Okay, now the other two are a man and a woman. The woman is sitting on the floor, with her hand on the other man’s foot. She seems like she’s shaking around a lot.”

“What the hell?” Jack had no idea what was going on. This was totally unexpected.

“I don’t know. Maybe a foot fetish thing?” Cattarina sounded as flummoxed as he was. “But I’m one hundred percent sure there are six people with powers in that building.”

“I don’t like this, that there’s another powered gangster we didn’t even know about.
