"glorious" of all Soviet space feats, the three-man flight of Voskhod I, was brought back to earth mysteriously, after a single day in space. The sardine-cosmonauts, despite their discomfort, radioed their protest to early termination of their mission. Korolev reputedly replied: "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophies."

The date was October 13, 1964, and Nikita Khrushchev had just been relieved of all his party posts and responsibilities.
