The conversation was enlightening in its own right but really hadn’t given her any new information. As Jake turned a corner and disappeared, Chloe got moving again. Her destination was Eli’s mother’s study.

She’d found some information on Sarah Mindel, but Chloe still had so many questions. She figured since she had found Sarah’s essay in Eli’s mother’s study, she may just be able to find more information there. Sarah keeps showing herself to me. She wants me to find the answers.

At least that’s what it felt like to Chloe. So, there she was, slipping back into the study and not letting Eli in on what she was doing. She really did want to talk to Eli about this and have him help solve what had happened to Sarah Mindel. The company would be nice to have while she tried to answer the questions she had about a dead woman.

Chloe needed to find the answers she was looking for about Sarah Mindel. By doing so, she hoped it would put Sarah’s ghost at peace. Everyone deserved to be at peace in death. At least, that was what she believed.

Chloe moved to the desk, still stacked with the essays she’d picked up from the floor. She opened a drawer and started flipping through the papers and folders inside. There had to be more information here on Sarah Mindel. Eli’s mother had kept one essay; that couldn’t be a fluke. Everything she’d learned about Eli’s mother showed that she had cared a lot for the students she taught.

Slamming the drawer closed, she moved on to the one under it. More folders hung inside it, and Chloe started pulling them out one at a time to look through the papers inside. Eli’s mother kept everything, it seemed. Chloe moved through the folders quickly, scanning the papers for Sarah Mindel’s name. Not finding anything of use in the desk doors, Chloe moved on to the file cabinets.

Chloe went through the papers and folders lying on the shelves. There didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to how everything was stored. But she wasn’t Eli’s mother. That wasn’t the first time she had to remind herself that everyone had their own way of organizing their files. Then again, it was possible that Ethan had one of his drunken fits in here like he had the other night in their father’s study. And if that had happened, then it was possible that Eli had just picked up the mess, putting the papers and folders back wherever he could find space.

Either way, Chloe continued to scan through the documents, moving on when she finished. As she kept searching for information about Sarah Mindel, she couldn’t believe there could be so much paperwork for teaching. Though if she actually thought about it, it wouldn’t surprise her to learn that teachers had more papers beyond students’ works that they had to grade.

Some of the papers were lesson plans, rubrics for assignments, and other such things that would be a help in teaching students.
