I sigh awake and smile, pleasantly sore and remembering last night. I reach my arm out to my side and feel the bed is empty. A humorless chuckle escapes my throat. I see men dead or alive, still like to pull a hit and run. Well, fuck that.

I push up from the bed, letting the blanket drop from my chest. Just as I am about to climb out of bed, the bedroom door opens. In walks the man himself, dressed in a t-shirt and sweats… with breakfast and a mimosa.

Aiden stops at the end of the bed and squints his eyes. “How do you already look angry when you just woke up?”

I bite my lip then reply, “I thought you left and were going to give me crap about it all being a mistake.”

He chuckles and raises a brow. “A mistake? Baby, I was there. That was most definitely not a mistake,” he says, as he ogles my bare chest. He shakes his head as if trying to get himself to focus.

He continues, “But we should talk. After you eat, though.” He hands me the plate and places the mimosa on the bedside table.

I look at him. “What about you? Aren’t you going to eat?”

He takes off his shirt and climbs into bed. “I made an omelet for me and ate it before I cooked yours, to give you more time to sleep. You’ve been working long hours.” He tips his chin towards my plate. “Eat.”

I begin eating the bacon, eggs, and avocado toast he prepared. It is absolutely delicious. I know it’s a simple meal, but it tastes better knowing he made it for me.

Anxious about what he wants to talk about, I devour the food in three minutes and sip on my mimosa.

Satisfied, I place the plate on the side table and move to lay my head on his chest.

“What do you want to talk about?” I ask as I draw circles on his skin, under his shirt.

“Us,” he says hesitantly. I go still at his words. “You will leave at the end of your contract. I think we should either keep this casual or end it.”

Shocked, I ask, “Was it just sex for you?”

He shakes his head. “No. I definitely feel something more for you but… you will leave, and I don’t think we could handle it if we caught any more feelings for each other. That’s why I’m setting the boundaries now.”

I can understand where he’s coming from. I’m not a reaper. I will not have a choice but to go to Heaven once the contract is up.

I nod in agreement with him. “Okay, I think we can keep it casual. No expectations.”

He looks at me for a second, before he nods. “Alright. Now that we got that out of the way,” he says as runs his eyes over my chest again, his hand moving down my stomach. “How about you open wide and feed me breakfast again.”

And I do. I do open wide, and I let him have his second breakfast.
