Many remember it as the day Wikipedia was turned off.

If you were among the millions of users of Wikipedia in Germany on November 13, 2008, you were in for a surprise. A member of parliament and former Stasi officer had it shut off. Instead of the familiar welcome page, this note appeared:

By means of a provisional injunction of the regional court Lübeck on the 13th November 2008, brought by Lutz Heilmann, MdB (Left Party), the registered association Wikimedia Germany is forbidden to forward the website Wikipedia.de to the website de.wikipedia.org, as long as the website de.wikipedia.org reproaches Lutz Heilmann of certain statements. Until further notice, the offer on Wikipedia.de in its previous form must, therefore, be stopped.
