Chapter Ten
Silver stumbled into the bathroom only half-awake. Keridwen had begged herself out of bed almost an hour ago, and although the sun was just rising, Silver had allowed it. Silver knew she was watching TV in the living room, and as long as she was staying out of trouble, Silver was glad for the extra sleep. Today was Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving and Keridwen had been rather anxious about the whole affair. Silver couldn't really blame her. After all, every encounter Keridwen had with Silver's family so far, hadn't been exactly pleasant.
The last few days had been trying. They still hadn't heard from her uncle, or Seth, and between the anxiety of the upcoming holiday and the unknowns they'd both been on edge. Silver had tried to keep Keridwen entertained. They'd been to a museum, miniature golfing, bowling, and had even tried Knott's Berry Farm. That had been a bit of a disaster. Silver picked that park because it usually wasn't very crowded and it had a good mix of show and rides. She just assumed that Keridwen would enjoy the rollercoasters, but they'd only served to scare her. Shrinking in the middle of a ride was dangerous, she was just glad it didn't happen on one of the rides that went upside-down.
Luckily, Keridwen didn't stay short long, and despite the rollercoaster disaster they still managed to have a decent time. That night they'd also made passionate love. Smiling at the memory, Silver finished attending to her business and then stopped at the sink to wash her hands. Looking up at the mirror, however, she suddenly jumped in surprise –there was something on her cheek.
It looked very much like a spider and she didn't want to scream for fear that it might bite her. Carefully taking her hand she tried to flick it away, but then she realized something else –it was flat and not a real bug at all. Getting closer to the mirror she studied it for a moment and then wet her hand and tried to wipe it away. Someone, and she had a pretty good idea who, had drawn the spider on her cheek with a black marker.
"Keridwen, get your butt in here right now!"
Getting her cheek wet and becoming frustrated as the spider didn't smudge or fade, she got a sinking feeling. "Keridwen!" she again yelled. Trying a little soap, and then her face cleaner and still not making any progress with the spot, she was beyond irritated. She was also wondering where Keridwen was. Silver had called her twice and so far she'd failed to appear.
"Keridwen!" Silver yelled a third time, finally leaving the bathroom in search of her missing brat. After quick survey of the rest of the condo however, Keridwen was still missing. Checking the front door, and seeing the doorstop chain was still intact, she decided to check the back instead. Finding the sliding glass door open, and not seeing Keridwen on the patio, she frowned. Keridwen knew better than to leave, especially without even saying anything to Silver.
