I forced my eyes away from the shower and my thoughts aware from these questions. No doubt I was just suffering a lingering case of the “hots” brought on by his nude, lewd dancing of the night before. After all, it wasn't necessary that you be queer to be turned on by the sight of naked flesh.

I left the bathroom, assuming my guest would be able to find his own way downstairs for coffee—perhaps a rather generous assumption in view of his apparent limitations in the area of brainpower.

I didn't quite make it to the kitchen. The doorbell rang just as I was crossing the dining area.

“Who?” I asked myself as I came back to the door.

It was Margo. She looked, I thought, disgustingly fresh and unspoiled. I consider two things most aggravating: people who are hung over when I am not and people who are not when I am. I kept these thoughts to myself, however.

“Margo,” I said, staring and doing my best not to look hung over. “What a surprise.”

“I'm sure it must be.” she said, giving her words a razor sharp edge. “It's been so long since last we met. May I come in?”

“Of course, don't be silly,” I said, dancing out of the way to hold the door for her.

She came in with chin high, eyes flicking about for any suspicious sights. “I thought since you won't come to see me that I might try coming to you,” she said.

“Margo, I’m sorry about last night,” I said rather lamely. I was thinking about something else, though. I was wondering how long Don normally spent in the shower. I did not have long to wonder. A second or two later, the shower door crashed open with a bang. Margo's eyes crashed open too. and threatened to do some banging of their own.

“Margo, I think I'd better explain something,” I said quickly.

“I think you should,” she said. “No, on second thought, I don't think I care for your explanations. I think I would like to see for myself.” She strode past me toward the stairs.
