Head turn reference images for the character of the fisherman. Because the film was made under the camera it was vital to have movement images to refer to, as making the next destroyed each previous image.

The storyboarding process

Kate used storyboarding as a helpful tool to weed out problems: ‘I storyboarded if I thought the idea had potential. It helped to see how it worked visually. I’m quite an analytical person so if I finished the storyboard and there was something missing, I thought about how to fix those problems and did a new version.’ She said that showing her storyboard to tutors and other students was an important part of getting feedback on what was working: ‘I needed to see what they got from it and make sure that I was communicating what I wanted to say. It all took time. A lot of time.’
