LIFE STORY: BRINGING LOVE TO LIFE

As you start to understand the interconnected nature of everything, you’ll find that you can’t be grateful for one thing in your life without being grateful for everything else too. You can’t resist parts of your past without resisting part of who you are. By developing the practice of feeling gratitude for everything, you can begin to feel complete love and gratitude for who you are in the moment.

1. Start by making a list of everything that you are grateful for. If you find it difficult to think of anything, then start with the basics: The air you breathe, the warmth of the sun, your health, a happy memory, your favorite piece of music, and so on. If you think about it, you can be grateful for all sorts of things that most people simply take for granted. Ensure there are at least 25 things or people on your list – if you can get to a 100, that’s fantastic.

2. Next, list everything in your life that has been challenging, difficult, and painful. Include anything that you might remember as being a ‘bad experience’ or trauma. Your NO list.

3. Pick one of those experiences and spend some time thinking about how that experience has (or could have) shaped you, and look for the (possible) positive characteristics, beliefs, and behaviors that have (or could have) come from it. Do this, in turn, with each of the experiences on your NO list. If you find one, or more, of them is too challenging then put it aside and, when you’re ready, use FreeMind Peace Practice 1 (see page 117) to help you re-experience it.

4. Now, for each NO experience, write a description of how it could have actually been a valuable experience or a blessing in disguise. How has each one of those experiences shaped your life, or how could they help you live a more beautiful life?

5. When you have found a positive perspective or meaning within each one, take some time to feel gratitude for that experience. Do your best to become grateful for everything that has ever happened to you and, when you’re ready and it has been transformed, add that YES moment to your gratitude list.
