DOCTOR Well, is our stomach healing?

JACQUES Marvellously. Look.

DOCTOR A lovely scar. You’re as good as new.

JACQUES Can’t you see anything special about my scar?

DOCTOR Luckily for you – not a thing.

JACQUES Wouldn’t you say it was rather mauve?

DOCTOR Mauve, mauve. So it is. It is somewhat as you describe it … somewhat mauve. What a sensitive appreciation of colours you have! You have a painter’s eye!

JACQUES The eye of the descriptive prose-writer. I’m the descriptive type. Description for description’s sake. If I had to, I could do without characters.

DOCTOR You aren’t like our poor friend Hubert.

JACQUES Poor friend indeed! That clumsy swashbuckler who accidently ripped me open.

DOCTOR Just think if it had happened to you, a character running away.

JACQUES I shouldn’t have minded. There’s only one thing that matters to me: the colour mauve.
