A guy whom Leo recognized as one of Staccio's palace guard, and three others, were pushing through the doorway from the stairwell when they reached the fifth floor. The kid did a double take on Al DeCristi and his face paled noticeably.

"You just now gettin' here?" DeCristi growled at the kid.

"Had to get some boys, AL It's only been a minute."

"A damn long one," DeCristi fumed. He sounded now, Turrin was thinking, exactly like Staccio. "Stay right here. We might need you yet."

The kid nodded wonderingly, eyes on Little Al's bloodied head, but asked no questions. He and his boys stayed put while the others went on to the Ruggi-Turrin suite.
