The 13th and 14th Panzer ground down the more numerous 9th Soviet and started to push them back. The 11th Panzer also gained ground against a larger but less modern foe.

To the south the Germans didn’t do as well. The 16th Panzer division had to withdraw in the face of superior T-34s and KV-1s. This left the right flank of the 11th wide open. To the southeast was the Soviet 37th Infantry Corps which could have exploited this gap but for reasons that have never been made clear, but probably have something to do with the confusion at the Soviet high command, sat out the entire battle.
