Chapter 17
Holy fuck.
That was the only thought left in Israel’s mind. He’d held Ashley to him for he didn’t even know how long after their lovemaking, stroking her skin and murmuring incoherent words about how beautiful she was, how incredible, how everyfuckingthing in the world she was.
He’d heard sex with your fated mate was amazing, but this—he’d lost it so bad his wolf was halfway out before they were done. She made him wild and tender and crazy and sane all at once.
She was tracing her hand over the muscles of his back, trailing her fingers down to stroke the curve of his ass. He smiled into her hair.
“Keep that up, and I’m going to have to start all over again,” he murmured.
He felt her smile back. “I thought you were in control,” she said.
He shook his head. “I said I was in charge,” he said. “I’d never be so idiotic as to think I could make love to you and not lose control.”
He moved his head and kissed her shoulder. “Beautiful. Sexy.” He punctuated each word with a kiss on one of her freckles. “Feisty, funny, sweet, vulnerable, strong, brave.” He kissed two more freckles. “Did I say sexy?”
“Yes,” she said. “And you are. Especially this part right here.” She traced the ‘v’ of muscle that ran diagonally down from his hipbones, and he shivered. “Did you know I ordered a bodyguard with this exact ‘v’? So sometimes Harrison listens to me after all.”
Israel smiled. “Believe it or not, he didn’t make me show it to him before he hired me.”
“Well, that explains a lot,” she murmured. “My order was also for blond hair and green eyes.”
“Mmm,” he said. “Two out of three isn’t bad.”
“Harrison told me you were going to be bug-ugly, too.”
“Two out of four.”
“Egotist.” She bit him lightly on the bicep and then immediately kissed the spot. Her lips lingered a minute, and then she whispered softly, so he could barely hear it, “I wish this could go on forever.”
His stomach felt like it dropped about seven stories.
She was already thinking about being without him.
“Why can’t it?” he asked.
She nuzzled her face into his chest, not looking at him. “You’re only here until the tour is over,” she said. “Or until we catch the stalker. Then you’ll be gone.”
He drew his fingers down the curve of her back. “I wouldn’t have to go,” he said. “Even when we catch this guy. The more famous you get, the more you’ll need someone to watch out for you.”
A mate. Someone who would kill or die for you, who will love you forever.
Her fingers traced a heart on his back. “You can’t just follow me around indefinitely,” she said. “What kind of a life is that for you?”
Infinitely better than life without you.
“I could think of worse fates,” he said.
She shook her head. “What about your fated mate?” she asked. “And your grizzly-dicked wolf cubs?”
He wound a strand of her hair around his fingers. “What if you were my fated mate?”
He held his breath.
