Managing the Edge Data Center Technology Stack

Edge data centers, like all data centers, operate what IT professionals call a technology stack, depicted in Figure 8.1. Tech stacks vary, of course, but in general, they contain the layers of technology shown in the figure. At the bottom of the stack is the physical facility itself, with the power systems, cooling, security systems, and so forth.

Next up is the network. The data center must connect to a network, such as a corporate network or the Internet. Within the data center itself, hardware devices must be networked together, so routers and switches are present to enable computers to communicate with storage devices and the like.
