So why do we do it?
Why do we continue to consume caffeine?
Caffeinated drinks don’t even quench our thirst.
We’re almost force-fed caffeine as food manufacturers mercilessly add it to the most surprising foods: breakfast cereals, soft drinks, chocolate bars, snacks, desserts – the list goes on and on.
We’re brainwashed into believing that it’s something we need as part of our everyday life; that any time we feel down or tired, there’s a magic potion that will make us feel better. The big monster is lurking in our minds.
When we have caffeine for the first time, the little monster is created.
Remember how the addiction works: the first shot creates an empty, insecure feeling and subsequent shots seem to take that feeling away. This is what awakens the big monster. We do feel better the moment we have another shot of caffeine, but it’s just the ending of the dissatisfied feeling created by the drug itself. The longer the period of abstinence, the greater the sense of relief when we finally have our fix.
