Chapter Five

Creigh snapped on his terminal, holding back a yawn. He’d slept fitfully all night, thinking of Gabriel. He’d been so ready to have Gabriel back in his life, but once he’d seen how far Gabriel would reach to have his way, Creigh had struggled to give in. Gabriel needed to be taught a lesson. Sadly, Creigh would suffer all the same for it.

He would go back, but on his own terms.

“I’ve been asked to join one of the new teams,” Kyle announced with a smile as he sauntered into their shared cubicle.

Creigh frowned. Even though he’d not gone out of his way to make friends, Kyle had grown on him. And their shared experiences had forged a bond of sorts. He didn’t want his one confidant to go. “What about our project?”

“We’re nearing completion. I was told to stay on task until it’s done, and then the switch will be made.”

Creigh turned his chair and watched Kyle settle in at his desk. Kyle was humming, excited for the new opportunity.

Bears in BondageIItt">Gabriel was taking his friend away, and he didn’t like it much.

“I suppose this means I’ll get a new hire, someone who doesn’t know anything about the company.” Nor did Creigh, really. He wouldn’t make a good mentor for a newbie.

“You’re coming with me,” Kyle said. “I told them we work well together and where I went, you went.”

Work on one of the new teams? With Gabriel? That was too close for comfort.

“You should’ve asked me first.”

Kyle turned his chair. He stared at Creigh for a moment, frowning. “I thought you wanted to go back? I thought you’d enjoy the news.”

Creigh sighed, rubbing his face. “It’s… complicated.”

Kyle shook his head and turned back to his screen. “What in life isn’t? Either you want him or you don’t. There can’t be any in-between, or you’ll drive yourself insane.”

“So what is it, Creigh? Do you want him or do you not?”

Creigh turned at the deep, masculine voice and saw Christophe leaning against the opening of the cube. Creigh stared at Christophe, but it seemed Christophe only had eyes for Kyle. Kyle had spun to see who their visitor was as well, and his face darkened as the weight of Christophe’s stare fell on him.

Kyle jumped to his feet, grabbing his empty mug from the top. “I’ll leave you two alone… to talk.”

“Don’t leave on my account,” Christophe nearly purred, the smile on his lips something Creigh had never seen.

Kyle smiled in return, shyly, as he eased past Christophe’s immovable body.

Once Kyle was gone, Christophe breathed deep and turned to Creigh. “Nice digs. I especially like the décor.” Christophe ran a finger down the padded wall of the cubical.

“It might not be up to your standards, but it works just fine.”

Christophe dropped into Kyle’s vacant seat and spun in a semi-circle before stopping and pinning Creigh with a stare. “I tried to talk Gabriel out of this plan, you know? But he couldn’t be reasoned with.”

“You’re right. He shouldn’t have come here like this, buying into a company just because I was here.
