“Who is Katie, really?” Fel asked when she had dragged me off alone.

“Katelyn Pius,” I said.

“Like I know who the fuck that... ooooooohhhhhh shit. I understand now why Matt dumped her on you. You’re kind of the leading expert on indentures and not being a tool about it.”

“Yeah. Indentured to the Lovecraft family for life. Are you immortal now, Felicity Nesbit?”

“You only use my full name when you’re scared, being seriously serious, or trying to change the subject. I’ll answer that when you tell me what you’re really asking, and why.”

“I’m... scared and I’m... I want you to be safe. You’re part of my life, like Samantha is. You’re family, but in a different way.” I told her, hoping she’d understand.

“Phew. I thought I was going to have to kick your ass again. What’s your strength stat at with the rings?” Fel said, blowing off my question.

“Twenty still, but you never answered me,” I told her.

“Just about,” she admitted. “I want to catch up with GeeGee. I... I sort of understand why you suppress the notifications now. You’re afraid of outpacing everyone, like in my dream.”

“I am,” I told her. “Deathly afraid and scared.”

“Sit,” she said, nudging me with her hip.

I sat. We were in the hallway to the dining hall, and there was a bench near a stained-glass window across from us.

“Morgan... My dreams sometimes come true, and they’re not always a bad thing. Sometimes they're disturbing to me, because I don't understand them. The more powerful you are, the less we all have to worry.”

“I’m not so sure about that,” I told her.

“Did you see the shit you did at the pass coming in? You’re like a shadow dancer, necromancer, and spellsword, all wrapped up in one tall, skinny, pale dude. You’re really coming into your own. You literally flexed and scared the royals here so badly they were trying to lay traps to slow you down, and dropping gear on the way so they could run faster.”

“That isn’t all me, Fel,” I told her.

She leaned into me and put her head on my shoulder. “Yes, it is. Even if it’s with people you draw into your circle. You’re my baby brother from another mother, and you have the potential to take over this realm. You won’t, because you have a pure heart. That’s your weakness. You’re basically a good guy. Do you remember the day we cleaned out the room at ?”

“Yeah,” I said with a chuckle. “You were all blown out.”

“Asshole,” she muttered. “You had me spend all that time cleaning the master bedroom. The biggest room in the suite. Dusting, cobwebs, bugs... and it was freaking spotless when I was done. I mean, I went all out because it was my first day indentured, and I sort of overdid it. Then, when I’m ready to drop, you make me help you put sheets on. I’m on my last legs and you’re like... have fun in your new bedroom.”

“And?” I asked.

“Jerk! I thought you were making me do it for you, your own room.
