Just as Nicole had asked, Danny dedicated himself to learning everything that Lydia Mullins could teach him. He was determined to prove himself to both women, if for no other reason than to prevent another sore bottom. By the time Friday arrived, he had mastered the basics. With their friends coming, this weekend provided the perfect opportunity to showcase his new talents and impress Nicole.

Nicole called at 4:00 to say she was leaving work and would be home early. Danny heard her pull into the garage at 4:45 and greeted her at the door with a hug and kiss. He had a surprise for her and could barely contain himself.

"When is everyone coming?"

Danny's question seemed unusual. He knew they would all arrive about 6:00. His eagerness had not gone unnoticed. Nicole's curiosity allowed him to guide their conversation.

"They will all be here for dinner. What did Mrs. Mullins make for us?"

An enormous grin spread across his face. It was the question he was waiting for.

"She made tiramisu for dessert and helped me with the Caesar salad. I am fixing the rest of our dinner. Now if you will excuse me, I need to get the potatoes into the oven."

Nicole's raised eyebrows disclosed her surprise. Danny's triumph was complete when she followed him into the kitchen. The quizzical look on her face as he placed six Idaho potatoes into a pre-heated oven was worth its weight in gold.

"You're fixing dinner?" Nicole's tone betrayed her surprise. "What, in God's name are we having?"

Her skepticism made it more rewarding.

"Along with the salad, I am serving strip steaks with loaded baked potatoes and steamed asparagus. Mrs. Mullins left detailed instructions and the hard part is already done. I'll leave the wine choice up to you."

Nicole still had doubts about Danny's ability. There was still time to make reservations for dinner but Danny's confidence persuaded her to let him try.

"It's against my better judgment, but if this is what you want to do, go ahead. I'm going upstairs to shower before they get here."

The doorbell rang just before 6:00 announcing their friends' arrival. Nicole answered the door as Danny came out of the kitchen. Kisses, hugs and handshakes were exchanged as they entered.

"Would anyone like a cocktail before dinner?"

Nicole's question was answered by a chorus of agreement. As a former bartender, Danny took their drink requests and headed for the bar in the den. Ben and Trevor hauled the overnight bags upstairs while Nicole and the other ladies joined Danny in the den. Once Ben and Trevor returned and the drinks were served, the conversation quickly turned to the plans for dinner.

"I don't see Mrs. Mullins so I assume we are going out," stated Catherine. "What time are our reservations. I'm starved!" The former body builder was not known for her patience.

"There are no reservations. Danny has made that decision for us. He is preparing our dinner."

Nicole's announcement generated two different responses. All of them were aware of Danny's incident with Lydia Mullins and the discipline he had received.
