The lightning flash temporarily blinded Bojko, but he saw Henri dangling from the mast unconscious and with his foot tangled in the ropes when his sight returned. The Gypsy could only whisper a plea to Almighty God that his co-worker was still alive. He grabbed a rope and swung from his perch across to where Henri hung dangling as crew members below on the deck watched in amazement.

His movements were as graceful as any performance he ever did on the trapeze. On his first attempt, Bojko swung into Henri’s inverted body and grabbed the victim’s motionless legs. He lifted his boss’s torso to turn it upright, and in a display of incredible strength, he held him with one arm while cutting the rope that had tangled about Henri’s legs. The freed weight of Henri’s body strained both Bojko’s and the rope’s strength to the maximum. Bojko was able to swing both he and the rescued to a rope ladder.
