Modules

M odules are packages of related functions, cmdlets, variables, and other resources. They help organize and distribute PowerShell scripts and functions in a reusable and manageable way.

Creating a Module

Module File Structure : Create a directory for your module and place your scripts inside it. The directory name should match the module name.

Example Directory Structure :

MyModule

├── MyModule.psd1

├── MyModule.psm1

└── Functions

├── Get-DiskUsage.ps1

└── AnotherFunction.ps1

Module Manifest (.psd1) : A manifest file describes the contents and attributes of the module. It is created using the New-ModuleManifest cmdlet.

Example :

New-ModuleManifest -Path "MyModule\MyModule.psd1" -RootModule "MyModule.psm1"

Module Script File (.psm1) : This file contains the function definitions and module-level code. It typically imports the individual function scripts.

Example :

# Import functions

. $PSScriptRoot\Functions\Get-DiskUsage.ps1

. $PSScriptRoot\Functions\AnotherFunction.ps1

Function Script Files : Each function can be placed in its own script file and imported into the module script.

Example ( Get-DiskUsage.ps1 ):

Loading the Module : Use the Import-Module cmdlet to load your module into the PowerShell session.

Import-Module -Name "C:\Path\To\MyModule"
