Location

In the depression at the lower border of the zygomatic arch, directly below the outer canthus of the eye. Situated at the anterior border of the masseter muscle.

To aid location, SI 18 is approximately level with LI 20 and ST 3.

Needling

0.2 to 0.6 cun perpendicular insertion.

Transverse or subcutaneous insertion in various directions: medially towards the nose, laterally along the curve of the zygomatic arch towards ST 7, and inferiorly or posteriorly towards ST 5 or ST 6.

Be aware of complex facial anatomy in this region.
