Allyson put the letter under her pillow, grabbed her alarm, and set it for 8:00 a.m. It would be enough time to make herself beautiful for her man.

What a wonderful thought! Dan Adams was her man, and he wanted her for an eternity. Her college life had turned out to be the beginning of the best years of her life. Her future with her man by her side would be not only full, but fulfilling. Daniel Jeremy Adams was all hers and she was all his. Allyson Rayburn closed her eyes and went back to sleep.

Dan returned from his haze only to realize he was still falling. Why the hell was he still falling? And why had he not asked Allyson for her hand in marriage? What in God’s name was really going on?

Was their separation in her senior year a sign of his unhappiness over never again reaching that peak of pleasure? God, how he wished Allyson were a part of his life. He tried to think of her while still falling to focus his thoughts. Or was it the sixth dimension doing this?

Allyson had received a call from her father one afternoon. They were in her room making love. Lifting herself from the bed, she walked to her desk and answered the phone. Dan watched her every move.

“Hello,” she answered. She immediately recognized the voice. “Daddy! How are you?”

“Allyson, I have something to tell you,” her father said.

Allyson knew it was bad news. She could tell in her father’s voice.

“Daddy, what’s wrong?”

Dan sat up in the bed and covered himself while listening.

“It’s your mother, Allyson. She’s had a heart attack.”

“What?” Allyson whispered. Dan barely heard it. She was shaking.

Allyson hadn’t seen her parents since she had left for college in August. It was now early November and she had been with Dan for almost two years. She was planning on bringing him home with her for Christmas. The plane tickets had already been purchased and arrangements had been made with her parents to celebrate.

Dan saw tears roll down her cheeks. He rose from her bed and put on his pants. He brought Allyson her robe and put it around her shoulders. She turned and buried her face in his chest.

“Allyson? Are you there?” Dan heard her father ask.

A few moments passed before she answered. “Is she all right? What hospital is she in?”

“No, sweetheart. She’s not all right. She’s dying and wants to see you. I’ll take you to the hospital as soon as you arrive.”

“Oh, Daddy . ” she sobbed as the tears came down faster. Allyson was unable to talk. Dan took the phone from her hand.

“Mr. Rayburn. This is Dan.”

“Dan, Allyson’s mother is in the hospital. There’s not much time. She would like to see Allyson before she’s gone.”

“I understand, sir. I’ll put Allyson on a plane this afternoon.”

“Thank you, Dan. Call me back with the flight number and time.”

“I’m sorry to hear about Mrs. Rayburn, sir.”

Dan hung up the phone and held Allyson in his arms.
