Aftermath
Her mind was consumed by visions of the palace burning. Her fellow soldiers being slaughtered across the battlefield. She pictured the Typhorian people abandoning their homes and running through the forest, desperately hoping that the fire would buy them enough time to escape total annihilation at the hands of the Gekken horde. Screams of agony and bloodshed haunted her. She had to see if there was any way that she could still help her people. She knew she could never make up for her mistake now. She would have to live with it forever. If sheâd come straight home when sheâd learned of the Gekken, perhaps they could have prepared. Perhaps they could have found allies, or planned a better defense. But not now. No, now all was lost. And it was her fault. She had to do anything she could now to help. She had to find a way. And she had to find as many Gekken as she could and kill them.
Raveena pushed her way through the forest. Her sword was thirsty for blood. Her blood boiled with anger. She had never, in her whole life, wanted to kill so badly. The Gekken had moved north as soon as the fire had burned out, so it took Raveena quite a while to reach them. She passed back across the field of battle. She saw the bodies of her fallen comrades littered about, many half devoured by the victorious Gekken. She saw the palace burnt to ash. Almost nothing remained. She passed through the Typhorian villages which were now nothing more than ghost towns. Any who had failed to leave had been butchered right there, but most had run. Guilt, shame, and regret wanted to overrun Raveenaâs mind. If she let them, they would cripple her and it would be impossible to carry on, so for now she did her best to suppress them in favor of anger. Anger she could use. Anger could help.
A few miles north of the last Typhorian village, Raveena finally came upon a small group of Gekken. There were four of them, and they had just finished slaughtering a Typhorian family. The husband, wife, and two children lay dead. Raveena had arrived a few minutes too late to save them, but she could avenge them.
With the odds only four to one, and with Raveena as enraged as she was, she felt no need for caution or subtlety. She didnât feel the need for honor or chivalry either. The Gekken were facing away from her as she approached. The one closest to her, caught up in feasting on the fallen Typhorian man as the other Gekken laughed and relished in their spoils, never saw her coming. She walked calmly up to him and ran her sword, with incredible strength, completely through him. He shrieked out in agony with the fatal wound, and his brethren were quickly alerted that a Typhorian with some fight in her still remained. Two Gekken rushed towards her.
