“Let me get this straight,” Isa said as the four Plague Doctors gathered at the airlock. “These grave robbers broke into a sanctum and stole a single cairn. Then happen to smuggle it onto the one shuttle manned by the deceased’s granddaughter?”

“Yeah, just happened to,” Midnight repeated sourly. “So far we have found the four passengers dead, and one crew alive.”

“We found one crew dead," Jocob added, “that leaves three crew unaccounted for.”

“Do we know who?”

“We still don’t have a manifest. Seems the ‘archaeologist’ managed to pay well to fuck up the system.”

“We will get it,” Newton said, “when we’re done.”

The group chuckled. They didn’t need to discuss what to do, they’d been through these enough times. Their suits would be good for a bit longer against the rare radiation. They prepared themselves for a fight, for the undead never wanted to go back to the spirit realms. Jocob prepared differently; his job was to set seals as they went. This would make it safe enough for the Astronauts to do their jobs later.

After twenty minutes they were ready. Midnight led the way with Isa and Newton on either flank. They carried censors that let out grey smoke. Jocob was in the rear with his own ceremonial magic flowing. Thus, he was able to hold off sealing the area if they need to change plans.

This trip took them down into the bowels of the vessel. They came into the kitchen first where blood could be seen around the cooking appliances. No one spoke as they had a good idea what happened here. Midnight stopped as they looked at bowls with chopped human limbs on it. At least one crew was killed by the cook.

Every ship had a cook. This was the closest location to the cargo bay. So it was not a surprise that the first to fall to the influence was the cook. Midnight just shook his head and continued on. They had a dangerous cook to consider now.

That was until they came to the short hall to cargo storage. In the hallway was the chef. He had been a beefy man, but now he was a lifeless husk laid by the storage door. His own deadly knife lodged into his chest. Someone had defeated him the old-fashioned way. It looked like it had been a rough fight.

Midnight turned to the storage door. It was sealed. No, it was more than that. He had to take a moment to allow his nose sensors to assess it. It was magically sealed. The granddaughter had picked up some lessons somewhere he assumed. She must be in there, sealed with the escapee. Silently his mind made a vow to get her out of there.

He motioned for Jocob to come examine the seal. For the first time the supernatural troubleshooting crew spoke among themselves. Midnight asked, “Can you deal with this?”

“I can seal behind us,” Jocob assessed. “We can release this one, fully reseal the spirit in its Cairn, while all being contained.”

“Let’s get the granddaughter out.
