CHAPTER FOURTEEN

Clint

The next morning August texted Clint early to let him know he’d been called into work. He didn’t want to leave them hanging, and Clint understood of course. He had his own work to do anyway. He was slightly behind on his current projects, so he spent the day working toward getting caught up. He had more than one order to fulfill, and he also liked to get a few extras together so he could bring them to Movies with Goats every once in a while to sell.

So he spent the day in his shop, trying not to think about the fact that August could have been fucking him. Clint loved welding. It was his passion, but he had to admit, it didn’t hold a candle to the thought of getting fucked by August.

The next day was August’s scheduled day at the clinic, so they weren’t able to get together then either. Clint worked until evening, thought about calling August to see what he and Reese were up to, but didn’t want to seem too pushy with their time. He tried Colby next, who was out of breath when he answered.

“Catch you at a bad time?” Clint asked.

“Nothing fun. We’ve been moving Vince into my place all day. I’m pretty sure he has double the amount of things I do, and he didn’t even bring all his furniture—only the bedroom stuff.”

“I heard that!” Vince yelled in the background.

“Good. Maybe you’ll take me out and buy me a beer because you feel so bad for making me help you carry all this shit.”

Clint chuckled. Whatever Vince said next, Clint couldn’t make out. “I’ll let you guys get back to it.”

“We’re done now. Want to come over and have a beer or something? I heard Vince say he’s cooking dinner.”

Vince yelled, “I heard Vince say he’s ordering takeout!”

Clint thought maybe this whole thing would be good for Colby. He’d seemed to have a hard time of it the past couple of years, since he and Lulu broke up. While the Covingtons were loving folks, a lot of pressure also came with that last name. They were so family oriented, got married or were in long-term relationships. They had kids, and they were proud, all knew who they were, and Clint wondered if sometimes Colby got a little lost in all that.

“Nah, that’s okay,” he told Colby. “But thank you anyway.”

“You’re not with your boyfriend?”

“I have a boyfriend?”

“You know you do.”

“Jealous? Wishing it were you?” Clint teased.

“Ha-ha.” They laughed together. “Seriously, though, you’re welcome to come and hang out with us if you want.”

Clint shook his head as if Colby could see him. Hell, he didn’t know why he’d really even called. He’d had no problem being alone before, and he wasn’t quite sure why he was now. August seemed to turn everything in his life upside down, not that he was complaining about most of it.

“Nope. I’m good. Probably gonna hit the sack early tonight.”

“All right, man. Talk soon,” Colby replied, and they ended the call.
