Russell watched helplessly as Bridget left the field with her sisters while he continued to work alongside Cole and Justin. All weekend he’d been dreaming of being alone with her, then the one night they’d had together he blew his chance at getting to know her better.

“So, what did you think of your first branding?” Justin asked.

Russell wasn’t sure if he was asking him or Cole, but he answered anyway. “It was interesting. Definitely a whole new culture that I didn’t even realize existed. Growing up in Boulder I would have never thought I’d enjoy a branding, but it’s something I’ll look forward to from now on.”

Cole also chimed in. “I agree with Russell. I wasn’t expecting it to be fun, but it was. The days flew by. I was shocked at how many people came to help, and it seemed like everyone knew what to do and how to pitch in.”

Justin nodded. “It’s amazing that the girls still pulled it all off. I was worried that people wouldn’t show up this year because their dad and Tim are both gone now. I think they had a record number of volunteers, though.”

“I noticed that a lot of them happened to be young adult men,” Russell said. “Coincidence?”

The three guys exchanged amused looks, coming to a silent consensus before saying, “Nah,” in unison.

Russell chuckled. “If men in Boulder or Denver knew about the Firestone sisters, I’m sure they’d all be flocking over to help out too.”

“Kind of like you?” Cole asked.

Russell straightened up. “No, I’m here because of you.”

“Right, but you stayed because of Bridget,” Cole said with one eyebrow raised.

“No, I stayed because I wanted the job.”

Cole laughed. “Sure. So, you’re telling me you’re not interested in Bridget, then?”

Russell went silent for a moment. “I never said that.”

“Do you like her?” Justin asked.

“Geez. Do the two of you have a bet going or something? Why do you care?”

Cole and Justin both cracked up laughing.

“You do have a bet, don’t you?” Russell asked incredulously.

“No bet needed, my friend,” Cole said. “I already know you and Bridget are going to end up together. After Blaire and I ended up together, and then Justin and Brenda, it’s only logical. Justin doesn’t believe it will happen again, but I keep telling him that anything is possible. Feelings develop without your consent, and sometimes faster than you’d ever expect.”

Russell shook his head. “Cole, you have too much time on your hands. Maybe Brittany needs to give you some more work so you stop making predictions about my personal life.”

Cole shrugged. “The fact that you won’t give us a straight answer says enough. You clearly care about Bridget.”

“Of course, I do. She’s been really good to me, and I love working here because of her,” he said.

Brenda walked up right after Russell finished talking. “Hey, guys! When you’re done putting things away, I want to have a little gathering at the shop. We need to have a family meeting.”

“Does this mean I don’t have to come?” Russell asked.
