Green is one of those colours that I would call almost impartial because of the way our eye accepts it in the overall design. Because Mother Nature uses it extensively I feel that it is in our nature to have it in our home environment as well. I’ve always had a great love of green. I remember when I was little, being asked what colour I would like for my pushbike and I requested a green one. Also from my childhood I’ve kept a small box filled with green treasures—inside is an assortment of beads, buttons, stones, thread, a tiny green glass frog, a jade necklace, a child’s ring with a green plastic heart, a green enamel brooch and marbles. I have kept this little box of memories for forty years and, upon removing the lid, it still gives me a thrill.

Green in the natural world is a very special colour. It never insults your sensitivities, preferring to just be. It is calming, it is nurturing and it is healing. Walk barefoot over a beautiful soft green lawn. Run your fingers over a moss-covered stone. Walk in a rainforest and swim in a green lagoon. Pick a bouquet that is only green and eat perfect green peas straight from a perfect green pod. Green is fertile and patient and respectful. If someone asked me to describe Mother Nature, I would have to say she is green.
