Fanu, Patchwork, and Adaim, smoothie in hand, watched from the hangar as the explosion engulfed the center transport, as well as those around it and the attack craft that had been tailing Tod. Injured and disoriented, the GG fleet pulled back into the clouds above. The Order garrison behind them cheered, but Fanu was not so optimistic.

She turned to Patchwork. “Is Skyfleet One in position under the base?”

If they were going to get off Aria Prime at all, it would be aboard Skyfleet One, which Fanu had ordered to be hidden under the platform on which the entire base was constructed.

“Yes,” Patchwork grunted.

“Good,” Fanu said. “Adaim and I need to get back to the command center—take all these tools and supplies for the interceptors and throw them down the mountainside. We don’t want the GG to get their hands on anything.”

While their ultimate objective was to draw in the GG forces, not defend against them, a moderately credible defense had to be maintained, lest the GG realize they were walking into a trap. Thus, Fanu had ordered every hallway leading to the hangar, the most likely point of entry, to be fortified. Ordersmen under Patchwork’s direction had welded meter-high metal plates at various points along this hallway to provide cover for the Order garrison, and several similar fortified points had been constructed throughout the base to obstruct GG movement should they breach the hangar defenses.

Fanu, Patchwork, and Adaim, Fanu’s second-in-command, used the reprieve Tod had paid dearly for to spruce up the defenses around the command center itself, converting wall panels into cover and pockmarking the floor with mind-blasts along possible approach routes. Unfortunately, the GG returned quickly, and with more ships of every description than before. Order Headquarters itself had no weaponry, so as the combat-oriented small craft approached, they fanned out in a sphere around the building to allow the transports to move forward. Two of the elliptical GG transports swept into the hangar, as Fanu had predicted, but two others lined up next to the left and right walls of the building.

Boom! Boom!

The building shook a little as the occupants of the second two transports blasted their way into the building from the side. The ones entering the hangar had less luck, as the Order defenders in the hallways bordering the hangar telekinetically shoved the two ships together, then slammed them against the floor. The transport on the left was thoroughly crushed, but Order Hunters from the one on the right blasted their way out and spilled into the hangar.

“Ah can see Order Hunters enterin’ the buildin’ from both sides on the thir’ floor.” Adaim took a sip from his smoothie.

Fanu nodded, watching the security camera displays over his shoulder. In the hangar, the Order defenders were fighting fiercely, telekinetically wielding twisted metal bits of the GG’s own transports against its Order Hunters, but another two transports were easing into the hangar, and their Order Hunters were already leaping from the ships to the ground. They still
