If you look at every male friend as a potential boyfriend or future husband, you’re hurting yourself and them! I had some of the best guy friends in college. I lived in a house with five other girls, and we had great guy friends who loved on us by mowing our lawn, changing our flat tires, shoveling our driveway after a snow, deicing our stairs—you name it, they did it! They took such great care of us. And you know what? Not one of us married any of the guys who did that. In fact, out of all six of us, only one went to college with her future husband, but they didn’t begin dating until they were in their midtwenties.

If every time you meet a new guy you start imagining what your children will look like, you are allowing your head and heart to run down a very unhealthy road. Don’t be the girl who thinks every first date is going to turn into marriage. Instead, focus on building healthy, meaningful friendships with guys. Be a good friend, not a husband scout!
