IVMuch in this chapter belongs to a part of the system that requires a more detailed study than I can at present give. I may be mistaken and only include it because the Documents insist upon the importance of the form of expiation described. It is connected with those critical and initiatory moments touched on in Book II Sec. XX.

VI cannot account for the fact that these substituted images often seem not only familiar but that their very form seems to recall the person for whom they are substituted.
