PART TWO

CHAPTER NINE

ISLAM AND ISLAMISM

Identifying the Enemy

Erdogan is peaceful in his means along the adage you can’t get people with vinegar but with honey. It’s an evangelical Islamic thing. Islamists don’t want to acknowledge that al Qaeda is a natural offshoot of their ideology.

—DR. ZUHDI JASSER

Essentially their [al Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood] goals are the same to establish Sharia but their methods differ. One is a civilized veneer; the other is a crude one.

—RAHEEL RAZA

Islamists are like the wolf in sheep’s clothing where they appear to be part of the democratic political structure but they are not. They use diplomacy and diplomatic ties to achieve the same ends. They have legal grounds to manipulate people where the more aggressive Jihadists use religious grounds but they are the same.
