A New Lead

“I don’t remember seeing Ruthie while I was here,” Clementine said. “Ugh. I don’t want to see her. Are we going to have to see her?”

“One thing at a time,” Amal said as the four friends crossed the lobby and headed toward Mr. Carbony’s office again. “We’re investigating the lady with the box. She’s our best lead.”

“If we can track her down,” Wilson pointed out. “She could be ten time zones from here by now.”

When the kids stepped into Mr. Carbony’s office, he was on the phone with his back to the door. “Yes,” he whispered. “I understand. It’ll be fine. I have to go.”

Mr. Carbony turned to hang up the phone and saw the four kids standing in the doorway. “Oh, hi!” he said, quickly bringing a big, bright smile to his face. “What can I do for you kids?”
