Should I, as a woman, work out with weights?

Weights twice a week can help women prevent “middle-aged spread” and keep their hearts healthy, a 2008 study shows. On average, middle-aged women gain 1 kg of body fat every year from 40 years of age. Over 20 kg can put them in the same risk category as men of the same age, particularly if the body fat is distributed around the waist. After 2 years, the study demonstrated, the women in the weight-training group lost an average of 4% in body fat, while the women in the control group showed no change in body fat. The study also found that weight training reduced intra-abdominal fat, which is associated with heart disease and metabolic disturbances.
