Regan and I are siting mutely at the wooden table in the large inner chamber of the Ripplesâ council room. Roman thought it was best to bring us here after calming us both down and having us get dressed. He has sent a few of his scouts out to see what they can discover about Bella. I had thought it was odd at the time how he insisted on helping to track Bella, but not GiGi. It confirmed for me the heart must belong to my grandmother, and not the blonde teen.
Iâm not listening to whatever they are shouting around us. Itâs been the same conversation since we started. Someone just randomly changes the view of it only for it to melt down again back to the blame game of who is at fault behind it all.
Roman sits at the head of the table, silent but watching the conversations like a spectator at a tennis match. Heâs watching as each head of his family casts the blame across the table to another. They remind me of barking dogs, and I laugh with the thought before I can catch myself.
âSorry,â I say softly, as they stare at me, âbut we are getting nowhere.â
âWhere would you like us to go?â A female asks, causing Reganâs hand to latch onto my thigh.
Even Roman is sending a look of caution as I prepare to answer. Itâs a wasted effort on his part.
âGo fuck yourself comes to mind,â I tell her with a voice flat and exhausted. âAt least that might actually bring some action to this place.â
Regan leans over to gently whisper to me, âCan I just take a moment to remind you we donât have GiGi anymore to brew the teas which save your ass after landing on the couch?â
âYou want me to play nice?â I ask her, keeping the whispered tone, knowing full well everything we say can be clearly heard.
âI think it might be a good idea,â she suggests, nodding with her assumption.
Lifting my head to evenly look at the woman who has crossed her arms with the confidence of an apology heading her way, I smile, and tell her, âPlease go fuck yourself.â
Regan lowers her head before her attempts to hide her laughter fail. âStarting to understand why GiGi always swore.â
âAre you going to help us find my grandmother or not?â I ask the room and the still silent Roman.
âGo fuck yourself,â the woman tells me, smiling proudly with her cleverness.
Regan jumps up, fearing what I might do next, telling the room and me as she drags me from the table and to the door, âWell okay. Thanks for your time. Roman,â she addresses, doing a weird bow with her head, âthanks for umâ¦whateverâ¦you know.â
Sheâs pulling me from the room as the magic creeps along my skin. It too has grown fond of GiGi, wanting revenge as much as I do in every way we can collect.
âPlease put that away,â Regan asks in a sing-song voice. âI donât know if you can take a whole houseful of wolves.
