KHABISH

Certain kinds of zombies, known as khabish, are scattered across the Himalaya. The reason they are often termed as zombies is because of the way they are formed. Unlike most other ghosts, no one has to die to become a khabish. A khabhish can begin to seep into a human being, usually a middle-aged man and start the metamorphosis. Gradually their prey transforms into a khabish.

A khabish usually has the following distinctive features: a missing right arm and pustules all over its skin. It has poor eyesight and is often prone to chest pain and tremors. It often looks sleepy.

A khabish can be spotted from a distance since it shouts curses at people it sees. It is said that if someone wanders in the Himalaya at night, they might hear someone shouting obscene words at them in a hoarse voice. If they pinpoint the source of the voice, they might spot an armless, rotting figure with breathing issues and blisters all over the body. If they make eye contact, the observer, too, will turn into a khabish.

A story of two travellers accompanies the tale of khabish. The two men, while indulging in night photography, spotted an armless figure in the wild. One of them got so annoyed by the abuses he was hurling at them that he threw stones at it and made eye contact with the creature. On their way back, he too started uttering curse words. Later that night, rashes started erupting on his skin. His friend thought it was some kind of allergy common in the mountains. Even the difficulty he had seeing seemed to be a result of allergic fevers. But once the chest pain started and the rashes turned into grotesque blisters, they decided to consult a doctor in the morning. The whole night, the infected traveller stood in front of his friend’s closed door and shouted abuses at him. His voice grew hoarser as the night went on. By morning the man inside the room heard a thud outside the door and the sound of heavy footsteps walking away. After a while he opened the door to see the right arm of his friend lying on the ground with the watch around the wrist still ticking.
