Chapter Fifteen

Tanya found herself still wrapped in Elle’s arms. Despite what could have been an uncomfortable position to remain in all night long, she felt more rested than she had in nearly forever.

It wasn’t that she ever had trouble sleeping. Usually her eyelids would begin to droop as she turned the pages of a book and finally relented to her overwhelming need to close her eyes. If she was reading a particularly riveting book, that normally happened about midnight or later. She’d drag through the next day at work. Coffee was her saving grace on those days.

Once her eyes closed, she wouldn’t wake until five or six the next morning, but she never quite felt rested. It didn’t matter whether she’d gotten eight hours or not. There was always an unsettling feeling she had a major gap in her life and the start of a new day would never be the answer. Today was different.

The compulsion to pee and relieve the pressure building in her bladder outweighed the contented feeling of being in Elle’s arms. Finally, she shifted and carefully slid out from under Elle’s embrace. Tolstoy followed her in like clockwork and wove in and out of her legs. This was their morning ritual. He demanded his first pet of the day while she sat on the toilet.

Looking at herself in the mirror, she made a feeble attempt to pat down her unruly waves. She decided she might as well brush her teeth, just in case Elle surprised her with another kiss. She didn’t want to have dragon breath when that happened.

“Tanya…” Elle called from the other room.

“In the bathroom,” she mumbled around her toothbrush, as she walked back into the bedroom.

Elle raised her arms over her head and stretched. She reminded Tanya of how Tolstoy would wake from his naps, as he yawned and reached out with his paws.

“Let’s go out to breakfast at the bistro. I like the ambience there. Then we can head over to the bookstore and get an update from Fay on whether she’s been able to convince Oren to get involved.”

Tanya pulled the toothbrush from her mouth. “Hey, how come you didn’t pack a bag?” She realized she would have to rustle up clothes and a toothbrush for her overnight guest.

Elle grinned. “I like putting on clothes that at some point covered your soft, tempting skin. Before we made love, it was the only way to feel close to you. That’s why I jumped into the lake that day. I wanted to feel your clothes against my body so I could imagine when they’d covered your skin.”

“Okaaay, that’s a little peculiar. I have several pairs of casual shorts and too many tank tops and t-shirts to count, so I suppose finding clothes for you will be a snap. I might have to rummage in my drawers for an extra toothbrush though.”

“Oh, don’t bother with that. I always carry an extra toothbrush in my small bag.”

“Convenient. So, do you make it a habit of spending the night with other women?”

Elle’s mouth turned up in a sexy smile.
