Around dawn this morning an unsigned letter had appeared on my breakfast tray. Later I planned to investigate how it had gotten there, but for the moment the contents of the letter were sufficient food for thought. The missive was from Satula, who had – obviously – been informed of developments in the camp.

My dear boy,

How horrible to hear of your near-descent to join the shades in the Underworld. I trust that you will return to health soon – after all, blood loss is soon recovered through healthy eating. Just rest those ribs, and perhaps regret that you failed to exercise other parts of yourself while you had the chance. Caerus has taken revenge for your scorning his gift!
