CHAPTER 20

“You look exhausted,” Talon said to Aria.

“Well, I was up all night,” Aria replied, sipping her martini.

“Regular hookup?” Weston asked.

“Yeah… And she told me she was interested in someone from her office.”

“Oh, like interested interested?” Talon asked.

“Like she’s asked the woman out, and the woman said yes. They’ve actually been out a few times since then, and while they’re not even close to exclusive, she’s not sure she can keep doing what we’re doing.”

“Sorry, Aria,” Weston replied.

“It sucks, but she said she’s going to let me know either way. Last night, we kind of had a send-off just in case it’s the last time. She did things to me that she’s never done before.”

“Is that why you kind of waddled into the bar?” Talon teased.

“Shut up,” Aria said, laughing. “Someone else has some sexy times news for us, I hear.”

“I did, but now I don’t,” Talon said, bringing her beer bottle to her lips.

“What do you mean?” Weston asked.

Weston had been a bit out of the loop with Talon since she’d shown up that day and told her about the woman from work. Ever since, Weston had been writing and waiting to hear back from Annie either about a possible deal or their fledgling relationship. Talon hadn’t really done her part to help keep Weston involved in her life recently, but Weston was focused on other things right now, which made sense, and Talon didn’t want to have to keep going back to her to talk to her about the ups and downs of being crazy into Emerson Bagley.

“You haven’t filled Wes in?” Aria asked.

“Not yet. She’s been busy, and I have been, too, technically.”

“Emerson?” Weston asked.

“Yeah, we’ve… Well, you know.”

“Really? Why wasn’t this in the group text? Why didn’t you call me?”

“Like I said, you’ve been busy. But it’s over anyway,” Talon said.

“What? Why?” Weston looked concerned.

“The day I went to see you, she asked me to come into the office to work on the project I told you about. I went in, and we… Well, we didn’t do all that much working.”

“I heard from Ellie that you told her it was the hottest sex of your life,” Aria said.

“Oh, definitely,” Talon replied, looking skyward. “It was amazing, and there was more after that, but then she told me she needed to get some space from what happened because of work or something. So, it’s over already.”

“Does it really have to be, though?” Weston asked her.

“She says it does, so that’s that,” Talon replied, sounding defeated. “I don’t want just sex with her. What we had was fucking amazing, but I want more. I’m ready for something real. If she’s unable to give that to me because we work together, I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.”

“Me too. I’m ready for something real, too,” Aria said, surprising them both.

“What?” Weston asked her.

“I don’t know. Maybe I’m not. I just don’t know that I want the regular hookup anymore. She’s got someone she likes now; that changes things.
